Las Cruces, New Mexico - The UIC softball team (2-8) fell to Colorado State, 9-5, in the final game of the New Mexico State Tournament on Sunday.

Junior Sarah Clynes was 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-run homer and a double. Junior Melissa Marinacci was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Senior Lauren Brennan was 2-for-3 with one run and a double, while senior Mallory Studzinski was 2-for-2 with one run, a double and an RBI.

Colorado State freshman Caitlin Stem was 3-for-3 with a home run. Senior Cayte Billman was 2-for-4 with one run and four RBI. Sophomore Allison Majam was 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Clynes fall to 0-5 in the circle.

Colorado State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single to left field from Majam. The Rams added three more runs in the bottom of the second.

UIC cut the deficit to one run in the top of the third. Clynes drilled a two-run home run to left field (3-2).

The Rams tacked on a run in the bottom-half of the inning. Colorado State's Billman picked up a grand slam in the fourth to give the Rams a 9-2 lead.

The Flames attempted a comeback with three runs in the top of the seventh, but fell short (9-5).

UIC squares off at the University of Arizona Tournament in Tucson, Feb. 29-March 2.
