Indianapolis, Ind. - The UIC softball split against Butler on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Flames shutout the Bulldogs (4-0), but were edged in game two, 7-4.
Sarah Clynes was 3-for-8 at the plate with two RBI and two home runs.
UIC 4, Butler 0
Clynes tossed a three-hitter in a 4-0 shutout over Butler in game one. The junior moves to 6-11 on the season after fanning six batters in 7.0 innings of work.
Ashlee Ackerman was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Clynes was 2-for-4 with one run, one RBI and a homer.
Clynes led off the game with a solo home run to left field.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Alicia Abbott drilled an RBI single to center field, sending Ackerman home for a 2-0 advantage.
The Flames added to their cushion with two runs in the top of the seventh. Ackerman doubled to left field, driving in Brittany Dixon and Mallory Studzinski.
Butler 7, UIC 4
Butler scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge UIC, 7-4, in game two.
Melissa Marinacci was 1-for-3 with one run, two RBI and one homer. Lauren Brennan notched two hits, while Clynes picked up her second home run on the afternoon.
Carly DeMarco falls to 3-4 in the circle after relieving Whitney Orellana in the bottom of the sixth inning. Orellana totaled five strikeouts against Butler.
Clynes stepped up to the plate for the second time in two games and blasted a solo home run to lead off the game. Brooke Frydendall added a second run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single up the middle.
Butler cut UIC's lead in the bottom-half of the frame on an RBI single to left field from Jen Arriga.
BU's Kelli Hahn led off the bottom of the second with a homer to left field for a 2-2 tie.
The Flames answered in the top of the third with a two-run home run from Marinacci.
Butler then cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the fourth. The Bulldogs made a comeback with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Arriga tied the game on an RBI single, followed by a three-run homer from Jenny Jacobs.
UIC finishes its three-game series against Butler on Sunday at 12 p.m.
