Softball Edged By Hofstra, 2-0

Clearwater, Fla. - The UIC softball team was edged by Hofstra on Saturday afternoon in the USF Under Armour Tournament in Clearwater, Florida.

Ashlee Ackerman and Brittany Dixon each picked up a hit for the Flames against Hofstra.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. Pam Dreslinski got the Pride (10-7) in scoring position after drilling a double to right field. The shortstop then advanced to third base on a wild pitch from Carly DeMarco.

Dreslinski then scored on an error by UIC catcher Stephanie Chavez. With a runner on third, Melissa Hodge gave the Pride a 2-0 advantage on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Kris Root was 2-for-3 for Hofstra. UIC's DeMarco (1-3) fanned three batters in 5.0 innings pitched.

The Flames (4-13) conclude tournament action on Sunday, March 9 when they face Michigan State at 8 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. matchup against East Tennessee State.
