Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team split with crosstown rival Loyola in Rogers Park on Wednesday afternoon.

The Flames fell, 2-1, in game one before bouncing back to down the Ramblers, 3-0, in the nightcap.

Loyola 2, UIC 1

Despite a two-hitter from Sarah Clynes, the Flames fell to Loyola in the bottom of the seventh, 2-1.

Clynes (10-13) fanned five batters in 6.2 innings pitched. The junior hurler tied 10th place in the UIC single-season and career record book with her tenth home run of the year in game one.

Brooke Frydendall and Melissa Marinacci each picked up a double against the Ramblers.

Lindsay O'Gean led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to left field for Loyola. Angie Funston was walked to put runners on first and second base. Nora Schober drove O'Gean home on a single to left field to give Loyola a 1-0 advantage.

Clynes continued her hot streak at the plate with a solo shot to right field in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1.

UIC had a chance to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning, but left Marinacci in scoring position at second base.

Loyola loaded the bases in the bottom-half of the inning with only one out. Kristen Medrud reached first base on a fielder's choice, but UIC third baseman Brittany Wilson threw home for the force out.

Kat Krause reached home on the next play on a fielding error by Wilson for the win.

UIC 3, Loyola 0

The Flames regrouped to split the series with a 3-0 victory in game two.

Whitney Orellana moves to 3-6 in the circle with a season-high eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. Frydendall and Clynes each notched a double.

Clynes led off the top of the fifth inning with a single through the left side, followed by a single from Ashlee Ackerman. Clynes crossed home plate after Loyola committed an error on a bunt from Abbott, giving UIC a 1-0 lead.

Loyola threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs and a runner on second base, but Ackerman made an over-the-shoulder catch deep in right center off the bat of Funston for the final out.

UIC added to its lead on a two-run RBI double to left center from Frydendall in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitter Lauren Brennan gave the Flames a 3-0 advantage with an RBI single to the right side.

The Flames host a three-game series against Cleveland State on April 19 and 20.
