Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team snapped No. 20 DePaul's 11-game winning streak on Wednesday night with a 5-2 triumph at Flames Field.
The victory marks the first win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
UIC hurler Sarah Clynes (13-15) allowed just three hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Melissa Marinacci was 2-for-2 at the plate with one run and three RBI. The junior also picked up her sixth home run of the season. Clynes totaled two hits, one double, one run and one RBI.
Marinacci drilled a solo shot to right center with one out in the bottom of the second to give UIC an early 1-0 lead.
Carly DeMarco drew a walk to lead off the third inning. Clynes followed with an RBI double to left center. After Clynes reached third base on a passed ball, the junior tacked on a third run after DePaul pitcher Laura Frankiewicz threw a wild pitch.
Lindsey Dean replaced Frankiewicz in the circle after 3.0 innings.
DePaul threatened in the top of the fourth with two runners on and no outs, but the Flames made two solid defensive plays and Clynes fanned one batter to get out of the inning with no damage.
Marinacci continued her success in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single to left center for a 5-0 advantage.
The Blue Demons attempted a comeback in the seventh inning with a two-run double from pinch hitter Marie Thompson, but DePaul's next two batters grounded out to end the game.
The Flames conclude their regular season this weekend with a three-game series against Wright State at Flames Field.
Saturday's doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m., followed by the series finale on Sunday at noon.
