Chicago, Ill. - Crosstown rival Loyola concluded the UIC softball team's Horizon League Tournament run on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the Flames at Loyola Softball Park in the consolation bracket.
The Flames finish their 2008 season with a 24-33 overall mark.
Sarah Clynes (15-18) totaled four strikeouts and allowed just four hits in UIC's final contest.
The junior hurler was impressive in this year's tournament, receiving the 2008 Horizon League Tournament Pitching Award after posting a 0.88 ERA in four appearances. Clynes fanned 17 batters in 24.0 innings pitched, allowed just three earned runs and picked up two shutouts in four games. In addition, Clynes was named to the all-tournament team.
Loyola jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning on a squeeze play from Nora Schober, sending Kaycee Tharp home on the bunt.
Pinch hitter Ellen Kresl drove in more two runs for the Ramblers in the second inning on a double to left center.
Stephanie Chavez's hot streak at the plate in tournament action continued with a solo home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning, cutting Loyola's lead to two runs.
Chavez led UIC offensively in the three-day event, hitting .545 (6-for-11) with one double, two RBI and one homer. The sophomore received all-tournament team honors for her stellar performance.
The Flames left seven runners on base throughout the game.
Amy Solava improves to 16-14 in the circle for Loyola. Solava totaled three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.
