Chicago, Ill.- The beautiful game became a Fiesta Thursday night when UIC head coach John Trask, flanked by volunteer assistant coach Minos Vlamakis and sophomore midfielder Charlie Trout, conducted a soccer clinic for hundreds of children participating in the Fiesta del Sol soccer tournament.
The trio's clinic, hosted at ChiTown Futbol as part of a festive Chicago neighborhood party, taught some soccer basics, but more importantly stressed the importance of education and playing for fun.
"This event provides a great opportunity to visit this facility and meet with young soccer players and their families," said assistant athletic director Shawn Sullivan. "A big thanks to Jose Perez and Jeff Welsh of ChiTown Futbol along with Angela Saxton from the Fiesta del Sol organizing committee. We look forward to hosting the families of ChiTown Futbol at Flames Field this season."
In addition, the young players took home Flames notepads, stickers, temporary tattoos and tried to stump the coaches in soccer trivia for candy.
