Chicago, Ill.- UIC junior goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja (Belgrade, Serbia/VI Belgrade) was named a 2008 Soccer America Men's Preseason Second Team All-American, the national soccer publication announced on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
This is the second preseason All-American honor that Bubonja has earned this year. He was also named to the 2008 College Soccer News Preseason All-America First Team.
Bubonja has also been named to the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List this month as a candidate for national player of the year honors.
The Serbian keeper posted a 0.56 goals-against average and a school-record 12 shutouts in 2007, including three consecutive clean sheets in the 2007 NCAA Tournament to help the Flames advance to the national quarterfinals for the first time.
Bubonja has already accumulated 22 shutouts, the most clean sheets in a career by any UIC keeper, while posting an impressive career goals-against average of 0.47 in his two seasons between the posts for the Flames.
UIC opens the 2008 season against UMKC at Flames Field this Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
