CHARLESTON, Ill. - The UIC swimming and diving squads were victorious on the road this afternoon, defeating Eastern Illinois in the Flames first road contest of the season.
The men's squad downed EIU 152-108 while the women's team defeated the Panthers, 138-121.
Winners on the day include McKinzie Jacobs (500 and 1000 free) Mike Hare (1000 free), Zach Van Swol (200 free and 200 back), Steve Yemm (100 back and 100 fly), Kayla Redig (100 and 200 fly), Andrew Schmitt (200 fly and 500 free), Emily Gniatczyk (50 and 100 free), Brian Anderson (100 free), Brooke Sawyer (200 back), Will Ikeda (200 breast), and Luke Martinez (200 IM).
Five pool records were set by the Flames, including the men's 200 medley relay team of Yemm, Ikeda, Schmitt and Anderson. Yemm and Anderson would bookend their day with another record, teaming up with Brenden Dougherty and Mark Kalafut to re-set the 200 free relay pool record, which UIC set back in 2007.
UIC returns home to host a pair of contests next weekend, beginning with a dual meet against North Dakota on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a quad-meet with North Dakota, Milwaukee and Butler on Saturday at 1 p.m.
