CHICAGO- UIC freshman midfielder Ivan Stanisavljevic (Belgrade, Serbia/Sportska Gimnazija) was named the Horizon League's Player of the Week, announced Monday, Oct. 5 by the league. He is the first Flame to earn the honor this season on the pitch.
Last week the rookie offensive force was unstoppable, scoring four goals in two UIC victories, with three of the tallies coming in Horizon League play against Wright State Oct. 2.
Stanisavljevic produced the first hat trick in four years for the Flames in a 3-1 victory against Wright State. He scored three unassisted goals against the Raiders, breaking a 1-1 tie with 80 seconds left in regulation on a beautiful bending free kick and icing the win with a breakaway tally in the final minute.
In addition to his in-league scoring, Stanisavlijevic also converted a penalty kick in the Flames' 3-0 decision over Wisconsin Sept. 30. In all, four of the freshman's five shots on the week found their mark.
Stanisavljevic now has a team-leading five goals on the year, and stands in second on both the Horizon League's points and goals listings for the season. UIC as a team ranks second in the league in both goals and goals per game.
