CHICAGO- The UIC men's basketball team embarks on a four-game road stretch beginning this Saturday, Nov. 28 against in-state foe Southern Illinois.
The game between the Flames (1-2) and the Salukis (2-1) at SIU Arena in Carbondale starts at 7 p.m.
Saturday's game will air live on ESPN Radio 1000 AM, with a live stream available on ESPNChicago.com.
Southern Illinois will also offer a live video stream through Stretch Internet for a fee. That can be accessed by clicking here.
Saturday is a return game from last year's BracketBuster matchup at the Pavilion. The Flames won that meeting 74-67 behind 25 points from Josh Mayo and 20 points from Robo Kreps.
The Flames are coming off of a 69-65 loss to MVC power Illinois State this past Monday. UIC trailed by eight late but managed to claw back and have a shot at tying the game in the final seconds before coming up just short.
The starting backcourt of Kreps (14.3 ppg) and sophomore Zavion Neely (13.3 ppg) is accounting for 45 percent of the Flames' point production through three games.
Kreps and Neely will go up against a Saluki backcourt that features local products Kevin Dillard (12.7 ppg) and Tony Freeman (11.7 ppg), who are two of Southern Illinois' top scorers.
Freeman is a name that some Flames fans will remember. He played for Gene Pingatore at St. Joseph H.S., the same program the produced UIC freshman center Louis Green, and he is the son of former UIC player Tony Freeman, who was part of a Flames backcourt tandem with current UIC associate head coach Tracy Dildy in 1988-89.
Senior Jeremy Buttell is starting off his season strong, averaging 13.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and shooting 38.5 percent (5-for-13) from behind the three-point line.
