VALPARAISO, Ind. - The UIC volleyball team had its five-match winning streak come to an end Friday night, falling to Valparaiso in three sets at the Athletic Recreation Center.

The Flames (15-13, 8-6 Horizon) fell victim to an offensively efficient Crusaders (19-8, 10-3 Horizon) squad that closed out the evening in straight sets, clearing the court with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-15 victory.

Host Valpo set the tone of the match, opening up massive leads that UIC would be unable to surmount. Kelsey Safranek would get four of her six kills on the evening in the opening set, but seven errors would open up a great divide between the teams that UIC would be unable to close as the home squad cruised to a 25-11 set one win.

The second set saw the Flames down by a lone point at 9-8, but six consecutive Crusader kills and scoring chances few and far between put the set out of reach for UIC as Valpo entered the locker room with a two set lead.

The closing set played out in similar fashion as Valpo ended the match on a 15-7 scoring run, with Angie Porche knocking down six of her match-high 11 kills in set three.

Casie Sullivan led all Flames scorers with eight kills and eight digs, while Jessica Dalke chipped in 22 assists.

UIC was held to a .101 attack percentage, the lowest the squad has had in over a month's time.

The Flames will look to bounce back with a trip to Indianapolis for an evening matchup at Butler on Saturday at 6p.
