This marks the third consecutive season that a UIC player has been invited to the MLS Player Combine. Pavle Dundjer and Cesar Zambrano were selected to participate in the 2008 combine, and Baggio Husidic attended the 2009 combine as a Generation adidas signee.
The brass of all 16 MLS sides will be at the combine to scout talent prior to the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, which takes place on Jan. 14 in Philadelphia.
Bubonja ended his illustrious UIC career as a two-time candidate for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, a unanimous First Team All-American in 2008, a three-time All-Horizon League First Team pick, a three-time NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region First Team selection and a two-time Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year.
He finished with school records in career wins (42), shutouts (39) and goals-against average (0.65) while helping the Flames earn three NCAA tournament berths. Bubonja was a key in the Flames' back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 runs in 2007 and 2008, including an unprecedented journey to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2007.
