LOS ANGELES - The UIC softball team opened the Loyola Marymount Invitational this morning with a close, 2-1 loss to Seattle in Los Angeles.

The Flames (1-4, 0-0 Horizon) opened the morning contest with a run in the first inning, after Stephanie Chavez's sacrifice fly out to right field drove home Sarah Clynes.

Seattle answered right back in the bottom of the inning, as first baseman Lisa Hill's right side single tied things up for the Redhawks (1-0).

The two squads would engage in a back and forth scorless drought for the next four and a half innings, before Megan MacIsaac hit a solo, two-out homer out past center field in the bottom of the fifth.

UIC would strand eight on base throughout the remainder of the game, with only four runners moving into scoring position after Clynes' run in the first.

Ashley Hewett matched her season-best in strikeouts with a game-high six against the Redhawks, surrendering five hits in her complete game in the circle for her second loss of the season (1-2).

The Flames are scheduled to play host LMU at 4 p.m. CST time this afternoon, but with rain in the Los Angeles area, a delay is possible. Please stay tuned to uicflames.com for the latest information.
