Baggio Husidic Gets First Start For Fire

June 24, 2009

CHICAGO- 2008 UIC All-American Baggio Husidic made his first professional soccer start last night (June 23), as the midfielder was in the Chicago Fire's Starting XI for the 2009 SuperLiga match between the Men in Red and Chivas USA.

Husidic played 89 minutes for Chicago's Major League Soccer club in a 1-0 Fire victory at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.

Thus far Husidic has played in four matches for the Fire as a rookie this season.

Husidic earned First Team All-American honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) last season after scoring nine goals and assisting on six others for a team-leading 24 points, helping the Flames advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second straight season.

He was also named Horizon League Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and an All-Horizon League First Team selection after his standout junior season in 2008 before he was drafted by the Fire in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.
