CHICAGO- The UIC men's soccer program revealed on Friday, Aug. 21 that senior goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja, senior midfielder Ian Sarachan and junior back Robert Younger will serve as the captains for the 2009 Flames.
"I'm very pleased with the leadership of this team," said UIC head coach John Trask. "You are looking at a group of seniors who have nine NCAA tournament games, including Round of 32, Elite Eight and Sweet 16 games, under their belts, which I believe counts for quite a bit in terms of knowing the expectations.
"The selection of captains for this year's team was very easy in some ways and difficult in others because of the amount of true leadership we have on this roster," Trask continued. "I could name all of the leaders, but I believe the guys are very pleased that Jovan Bubonja, Ian Sarachan and Robert Younger will be the captains for the 2009 campaign."
The Flames open preseason play this Saturday, Aug. 22 at SIU-Edwardsville at 7 p.m. in Edwardsville, Ill.
