LAS VEGAS- Kevin Stoll scored his first goal of the season, but a UNLV strike late in regulation forced the UIC men's soccer team to settle for a 1-1 draw in the Flames' opener of the Rebel Classic at Johann Field.
On a 90-degree Friday night in Vegas, the Flames (0-2-3) lit up the scoreboard first when Stoll dribbled into the box past multiple defenders and battered a rocket shot across the target and into the top right corner of the frame in the 37th minute.
UIC's defense turned away multiple attacks by the Rebels (3-1-2) until the 85th minute, when a Flames foul gave UNLV a free kick. Zach Kupfer bent a shot from about 30 yards away that snuck into the right side of the goal.
Jovan Bubonja made six stops during the evening.
The Flames wrap up their stay in Vegas on Sunday against UC Riverside.
