CHICAGO- The UIC men's basketball team renews its crosstown rivalry with Loyola in front of a national ESPNU audience this Friday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. Central inside the UIC Pavilion.
The game between the Flames (5-11, 1-5 Horizon League) and the Ramblers (11-5, 2-4 Horizon League) will be featured on ESPNU as part of Conference Tip-Off week. Anthony Calhoun and Jim Chones will be at press row with the call.
Friday's contest will also air on ESPN Radio 1000 AM via tape delay, with Adam Levinson handling play-by-play, UIC legend Kenny Williams providing analysis and Jordan Bernfield serving as in-game host.
The game is also the third annual Pack the Pavilion contest, sponsored by University Village Marketplace. Special $1 admission for UIC faculty and staff is available, and UIC faculty and staff can bring guests for $5 per person. There will also be a pre-game event inside the Pav from 5-6:30 p.m., with food, games, prizes and more.
Both teams will seek to snap three-game losing streaks, but the Flames hope to use their home court advantage to break the skid. The Flames have won four of their last five at the Pavilion and five of seven overall at home.
UIC has won five in a row over the Ramblers, including three straight Pavilion meetings.
Senior forward Jeremy Buttell has stepped up his offensive production in the last two games. Buttell averaged 26.5 ppg and 10.0 rpg in the Flames' last pair of games, including a career-high 31-point effort against Youngstown State on Jan. 7. Buttell had never scored more than 16 points in a game prior to last Thursday but scored 22-plus points in each of the last two contests.
