CHICAGO- The UIC men's basketball team could not keep up with 20th-ranked Butler in an 84-55 loss at the UIC Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
Jeremy Buttell scored 13 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Flames (5-14, 1-8 Horizon League), while Zavion Neely added 13 off the bench.
Gordon Hayward scored 17 of his game-high 25 points during the game's first 20 minutes for the league-leading Bulldogs (16-4, 9-0 Horizon League).
The Flames could not stop Butler's red-hot shooting, as the Bulldogs shot 56 percent (28-for-50) from the field.
UIC rallied from an early five-point deficit to lead by one after K.C. Robbins made his third bucket within the game's first six minutes.
But that was the one and only advantage the Flames would own. Butler rattled off a 7-0 run and eventually took an 11-point lead into the halftime break that methodically ballooned to as many as 32 late in the second half.
Butler converted 13 UIC turnovers into 23 points and had 12 second-chance points.
UIC hits the road to face Wright State next Thursday.
