INDIANAPOLIS - In recognition of success in the classroom by its participants, the Horizon League honored 715 student-athletes on Thursday (Feb. 4) as members of the 2009 Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Butler led the list with 108 student-athletes, followed by Milwaukee with 89 representatives, Loyola with 83 and Youngstown State with 72. Valparaiso had 67, followed by Wright State with 66. Green Bay and Cleveland State with 63 each. Detroit with 62 and UIC adding 42.

Other top sports include men's soccer with 66 women's swimming and diving with 54, volleyball with 52, softball with 48, and baseball with 41.
Candidates for the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) as of Dec. 31, 2009.
