DETROIT, Mich.- The UIC men's tennis team defeated Horizon League opponent Detroit 4-3 at the Franklin Athletic Center on Thursday.
The teams of Sebastian Lystad/Nate Kirk and Scott Shepardson/Luis Gonzaga nailed down the doubles point for the Flames.
Lystad and Kirk defeated Patrick Troy and Nick Tolomei 8-6, while Shepardson and Gonzaga earned the point by defeating Pjotrs Necajevs and Christopher Cheung in a 9-8 (7-4) tiebreaker.
In singles play, UIC took home wins at the second, third, and sixth seeded matches.
Gonzaga earned his 12th singles win of the season, defeating Troy in two straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
Nicolas Ospina was victorious in his singles match with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Cheung in the sixth seeded match.
Bastian Harbo secured the win for the Flames, coming back from a 4-6 set two lost to take set three 6-3 to earn the match winning point for UIC.
The Flames travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on non-conference opponent Western Michigan at 6:30 p.m.
