CHICAGO- The UIC men's soccer team continued its spring exhibition homestand with a 3-1 win over Lewis at Flames Field on Friday night.
The Flames took the early lead when newcomer Eric Frazier scored on a ball directed by freshman Felipe Carrasco.
UIC tacked on another goal in the first half, this time from freshman phenom Ivan Stanisavljevic on a restart from 34 yards out.
Lewis converted on a chance in the 60th minute to cut the Flames' lead to one, but UIC iced the match in the 89th minute when Alex Rickett directed a shot into the net off of a rebound of Joe Radice's shot.
"It was a great test for this new group of core players here at UIC who are continuing to develop their own personality," said UIC head coach Sean Phillips. "Lewis showed why they were a national semifinalist last year. They played with discipline, heart and a good amount of skill. Our next challenge will be recovering to put on a good performance on Sunday night."
