CHICAGO - The UIC softball team stepped out of league play on Wednesday, falling 6-1 at Northwestern at Sharon Drysdale Field in Evanston.
Stephanie Chavez would belt her fifth homer of the year well over the left center wall to get the Flames (17-30) on the board in the first.
The host Wildcats (22-19) would put up a pair in the bottom of the first as the dp Michelle Batts drove in two off a centerfield single for a 2-1 Northwestern lead.
With neither side getting anything going in the second or third innings, the Wildcats fourth saw five hits translate into four runs to put the game out of UIC's reach with a five run lead.
Devin Miller would fan four in 3.2 innings of work before Ashley Hewett would enter in relief to close out the contest.
