CHICAGO- A large crowd gathered at Union Park Lounge on Friday, June 18 for UIC's World Cup Watch Party featuring a breakfast buffet and the U.S.-Slovenia match.
UIC head men's soccer coach Sean Phillips, assistant coach Aleksey Korol, Flames soccer alums, UIC athletics and campus staff, representatives from the Chicago Fire and the Chicago Red Stars, and a gob of soccer fanatics convened on the West Loop sports bar for a delicious spread of breakfast fare and 26 plasma TVs to watch DeMerit and the Yanks rally for a 2-2 draw.
Flames gear and schedule cards were handed out, and UIC items were also raffled off.
DeMerit, who is once again featured extensively in photos and words throughout Grant Wahl's recap of the U.S.-England match in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated, turned in another fine performance to help the Americans overcome a two-goal deficit.
DeMerit USA jerseys and t-shirts were prominent throughout Union Park, as was a giant cutout of Jay in his UIC and USA kits.
UIC Athletics thanks Union Park Lounge and all those who came out to the event.
