CHICAGO - UIC head men's basketball coach Howard Moore revealed the 2010-11 schedule on Monday, featuring several intriguing matchups including tilts against Big East power Pitt, in-state rival Illinois, Pac-10 upstart Oregon State and a pair of contests against Butler whom advanced to the National Championship game last season.

The Flames will play a 30-game schedule with 12 non-conference games and 18 Horizon League battles on the docket.

"We have a very competitive schedule that will let us know early on the potential of this team and where we are as a program," said Moore who is in his first season at the helm. "We'll be challenged both at home and on the road and we look forward to competing every single day."

Moore will make his head coaching debut against the University of Illinois at Springfield in an exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the UIC Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.

The regular season gets underway a week later when UIC travels to Pittsburgh for the first-ever contest between the Flames and Panthers on Nov. 10 at the Petersen Events Center. That contest is the first of four that UIC will play as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The final three will take place in Toledo, Ohio on Nov. 19-21, against Toledo, College of Charleston and Rhode Island.

The home opener is sandwiched in between Coaches vs. Cancer ballgames on Nov. 15 at the UIC Pavilion against the Roosevelt Lakers who are in their first season of collegiate athletics in 20 years.

Following the trip to Ohio, the Flames begin the first four-game homestand on this year's calendar. Central Michigan comes to town on Nov. 24 at 7 p.m., followed by a second showdown with Toledo, this time at the Pavilion. On Thursday, Dec. 2 UIC will play host to Moore's first Horizon League game when Homer Drew and his Valparaiso Crusaders invade Chicago. The home stretch concludes with a visit from Akron on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.

After a break for final exams, the Flames jump back on the hardwood on Saturday, Dec. 11 for the first of three straight in-state matchups when they travel to Bloomington to take on the Illinois State Redbirds at 7:05 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 14 UIC travels west to DeKalb for a game against Northern Illinois.

In one of the most anticipated games on the slate, the Flames welcome the Illinois Fighting Illini to Chicago for a contest on Saturday, Dec. 18. The 1 p.m. tip-off is a home game for UIC, however, the two foes will square off at the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls.

One final non-conference test sends UIC to Corvallis, Ore. for a rematch against head coach Craig Robinson's Oregon State Beavers on Dec. 22. The Flames got the best of Robinson's bunch last season, downing the Beavers 63-61 at the UIC Pavilion.

With 2011 looming, UIC will jump back in to league play for the final 17 games of the season, beginning with a trip to Ohio to ring in the New Year. The Flames will play at Youngstown State on Dec. 30, and at the Wolstein Center against Cleveland State on New Year's Day at 1 p.m.

A brief two-game stint at home for UIC features visits from Wright State on Jan. 6 and Detroit on Jan. 8. The game against head coach Ray McCallum's Detroit squad has been selected as one of two Horizon League Games of the Week that will feature the Flames this season.

UIC will make a three-game road swing beginning with a trip up I-94 to Milwaukee on Jan. 13 and then on to Green Bay for a game against another first-year head coach, Brian Wardle, on Jan. 15. The road trip concludes close to home when Moore and the Flames head north to Rogers Park to face head coach Jim Whitesell and Loyola on Saturday, Jan. 22. Moore was an assistant on Whitesell's first Ramblers staff during the 2004-05 campaign.

On Thursday, Jan. 27, UIC begins its second spin through the Horizon League when they welcome Cleveland State at 7 p.m. Youngstown State makes its visit to the Pavilion on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The start of February is jam-packed for Moore and the Flames. The team will play seven games in a span of 17 days beginning with a three-game trip to Detroit (Feb. 3), Wright State (Feb. 5) and defending league champion, Butler (Feb. 7). Three days later, UIC will be back at the Pavilion to start the final homestand of the season with games against Green Bay (Feb. 10), Milwaukee (Feb. 12), Loyola (Feb. 16) and Butler (Feb. 19). The ballgame against the 2010 National Runner-Up marks the second time that UIC will be featured on the Horizon League Game of the Week.

The regular season wraps up a week later when UIC makes the quick trip to travel to Valpo on Feb. 26 for a 7:05 p.m. game.

"I'm looking forward to getting re-established and reacquainted with the league, the great venues and the great coaches," said Moore. "The landscape has changed a little bit and I'm looking forward to getting out and competing and showing what UIC has coming on the horizon."

The 2011 Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship will get underway with the opening round games taking place on Tuesday, March 1.

Complete radio and television information will be released at a later date.
