17th Annual UIC Scholarship Classic A Great Success

Sept. 3, 2010

Bolingbrook, Ill. - The 2010 UIC Scholarship Classic was a rousing success yet again as nearly a full field of 144 golfers took the links at beautiful Bolingbrook Golf Club to strut their stuff and, more importantly, raise money for the UIC Athletic Scholarship Fund.

The annual event, held on Thursday, Sept. 3rd, was sold out once again and despite the iffy weather, drew 144 golfers to Bolingbrook.

The afternoon which was sponsored by Credit Union 1, University of Illinois Medical Center, American Family Insurance and ESPN 1000 was won by the foursome of Bill Shaughnessy, Greg Gehrke, Mike Scanlon and Tim Coughlin. One member of that group, Greg Gehrke, also won the closest to the pin competition on the 15th hole.

The day's highest score belonged to the foursome of Mike Salerno, Joe Curralli, Greg Sklenar and the Voice of the Flames, Adam Levinson.

Jeff Garcia won the longest drive competition among the guys, while Credit Union 1's Maggie Westlove was the longest of the ladies off the tee on the 10th hole. Luis Arroyo had the longest putt of the day on the 18th hole.

The 13th hole featured the Beat the Coach competition where Rick Christerson got the best of new UIC women's golf coach Carol Rhoades.

Other Flames coaches in attendance included women's basketball head coach Lisa Ryckbosch and her entire staff, soccer's Sean Phillips, baseball's Mike Dee and Sean McDermott and new men's basketball boss Howard Moore and his staff.

In all, the event raised nearly $85,000 to help support the UIC Athletic Scholarship Fund.
