Men's Tennis Opens Up Its Home Opener

Jan. 21, 2011

CHICAGO- The UIC men's tennis team will open its dual season at home on Saturday, Jan. 22, against University of Chicago at 7 p.m., at Hinsdale Racquet Club in Hinsdale, Ill.

The Flames is coming off a very competitive opening weekend of play on the road, against cross-town rivals DePaul and No. 59 Northwestern.

"The University of Chicago was very competitive last year, and we are definitely not going to overlook them this Saturday," said head coach Hans Neufeld. "It is important that we get off to a strong start, and win the doubles point. Getting Dave Robare back will help solidify the doubles lineup."

Freshman Alexander Raa set the tone for his Flames' teammates, coming away with his first collegiate win at the No. 2 slot for singles against Northwestern.

The University of Chicago is opening its spring dual season when it comes into the Hinsdale Racquet club to take on the Flames. They come into the season nationally ranked in Division III at No. 17, and they have a freshman, Alexander Golovin, who is ranked No. 40 in singles play.

Last year, the Flames beat the University of Chicago, 5-2, in a dual match at Bally's Hyde Park in Chicago.
