BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The UIC men's tennis team concluded its weekend road trip with a 7-0 dual-match loss at Illinois State in the Evergreen Racquet Club.
"Our doubles came out with energy tonight, and we played a tight match," said head coach Hans Neufeld. "For singles play, we played very well and lost to a very good. Our team as a whole improved from yesterdays match, and we showed more fight in us tonight".
Illinois State secured the doubles point, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Junior Dave Robare and freshman Alexander Raa defeated Miljevic and Smith-Dennis, 8-5, in the No. 2 position for the Flames.
The Flames dropped straight-set decisions in the respective No. 1, second, No. 3, fourth, No. 5 and sixth singles position. Freshman Alan Reifer took his match with Juan Varon in the No. 4 position to the brink, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2), falling just short.
UIC will face host Marquette at Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee, Wisc, beginning at 3 p.m. CST.
