The 2011-12 UIC Men's Tennis Alumni match took place on Saturday afternoon with numerous former student-athletes taking part in the event.
"It was a great day of tennis and the alumni were very competitive in the doubles event," said Head Coach Hans Neufeld.
The alumni captured the doubles crown as Eric Fey and Andy Lockhart defeated Alex Raa and Rahul Kamath by a score of 9,7. Alumni Paul Glendenning and John Cincola also bested Scott Shepardson and Alan Refier by final tally of 8-7(6). The Flames blocked the sweep as Francisco Pereira and Bobby Brooks handled former players Jon Schmidt and Danai Samuriwo, 8-7(4).
The Flames won the singles competition as No. 1 Raa took down Cincola, 6-3, 6-4; No. 3 Reifer downed Lockhart, 7-5, 6-4; Kamath ousted Glendenning, 8-7(6) and Gautham Oroskar beat Jon Schmidt, 6-3, 6-2.
The Flames next event will be the ITA Midwest Regional in Columbus, Ohio on Oct. 13 - Oct. 18.
