Griffith, Ind.- The women's tennis teams concludes its weekend of home matches, by defeating Chicago State with a clean sheet, 4-0. The Flames remained perfect this weekend by defeating Northern Illinois on Friday, and Souther Illinois earlier today.
"It was good to get a lot of matches in, especially going into an off weekend," said head coach Shannon Tully. "We have a lot of work to do in order to prepare for tough opponents in Western Michigan and IPFW in two weeks".
Juniors Mariya Kovaleva and Linda Hricistova continue their winning ways at the No. 1 doubles, defeating CSU's Dian Mayarsari and Juan Rosalina T, 8-4. The doubles point was won by the Flames, when senior Ilinca Cristescu and junior Teona Tsertsvadze, defeated Peggy Moore and Juan Roasalia from Chicago State, 8-2.
Kathryn Sharples and Jana Knoppe both freshmen, won their match by default, because the doubles point was played until decided.
Sharples and Hricistova won their singles match in a default style, because Chicago State had only four players. Knoppe at the No. 4 singles position, defeated CSU's Peggy Moore, 6-0, 6-1, and securing the win for the Flames.
The first three singles positions were stopped and didn't finish, because the match was agreed upon till the first team who receives four points would win.
UIC will have two weeks off until their next matches, and won't play again till Feb. 26 and Feb. 27, when the Flames take on Western Michigan (1 p.m.) and IPFW (9 a.m.) respectively in Kalamazoo, Mich.
