Men's Tennis Takes On Host Marquette

Feb. 4, 2011

CHICAGO- The UIC men's tennis team will go up against host Marquette, Saturday, Feb 5, at Helfaer Tennis Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.

UIC are coming into this match with an overall record of 1-4. On Jan 28, they took on Mid- American Conference powerhouse Western Michigan, and falling to the host, 7-0. The next day, the Flames traveled to take on Illinois State, and dropping the match as the same result as the day before, 7-0.

The Flames showed more intensity and hunger against Illinois State, despite the result being the same for both matches. The intensity showed in the doubles matchup, when junior Dave Robare and freshman Alexander Raa defeated Illinois State Filip Miljevic and Mya Smith-Dennis, 8-5.

"Marquette [University] is a tough Big East opponent that will push us to play with great
intensity," said head coach Hans Neufeld. "I am looking forward to the team stepping up and competing at a high level".

Marquette (2-1) is undefeated at home this season, recording wins over IUPUI and Chicago State. Golden Eagles only loss came to the hands at No. 33 Minnesota in the dual season opener.

Last year, the Flames took on Marquette at Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee, Wis, dropping the match, 6-1.
