SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The UIC men's and women's track and field teams headed to Notre Dame over the weekend to compete with some of the top teams from around the country at the Meyo Invitational.
The Flames were among 36 men's teams and 47 women's teams that were represented at the meet.
On the men's side, the distance runners enjoyed a solid weekend. Tyler Hinckley ran 13th in the 1-mile race in a time of 4:15.23, a personal-best for the Schaumburg, Ill. native. Freshman Photis Karkalis also posted a personal-best effort in the 3,000-meter run, running 15th in a time of 8:40.60. Brian Denk made his indoor debut with a personal-best time of 14:47.06 in the 5,000-meter run. The junior harrier finished 18th in the event.
The women had strong showings in several field events at the Meyo. Kellie Schuh finished 13th in the pole vault with a season-best height of 3.55 meters. Andrea Crump continued to shine for UIC, putting forth a personal-best triple jump of 11.73 meters. Crump placed 18th in a deep and talented field, while Schuh finished 23rd with a distance of 11.44 meters in the triple jump. Constance Sciacero placed 16th in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters.
The Flames will now turn their attention to this weekend's Chicagoland Championships in Naperville, Ill. The women will compete on Friday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m., while the men take their turn the following day on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m.
