CHICAGO - Head men's and women's track & field and cross country coach Jim Knoedel announced the make-up of the Flames' 2011 cross country schedule Wednesday, a slate that kicks off with the annual home opener in Palos Heights on September 3.

"I'm looking forward to the challenges of the upcoming schedule," said Knoedel. "Our athletes worked very hard over the summer putting in lots of miles, and the meets we are competing in will certainly test each and every one of them. I'm really looking forward to our first big meet of the season, the Illinois Intercollegiates on the Illinois State University golf course. We'll be facing some of our stiffest competition of the year at that meet."

The Flames will compete in the state of Illinois in four-consecutive weekends from September 3-24, before heading to the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Friday, September 30.

After a two-week break, UIC will compete at the Bradley Classic (Oct. 14) in Peoria, Ill., before embarking on the Horizon League Championships in Cleveland on Saturday, October 29.

"Our men's team has loads of talent with seven-of the top-eight returning from the 2010 team," Knoedel said. "Jaime Johnson, who finished 12th at last year's Horizon League Championships, will provide the leadership along with Grace Millhorn for our young women's team."
