Men's Tennis Faces Off Against Chicago

Jan. 20, 2012

CHICAGO - The UIC men's tennis team (0-2) plays in its first home meet of the season on Saturday, when they host the University of Chicago Maroons at 6 p.m. (CT), at the Hinsdale Racquet Club in Hinsdale, Ill.

After facing grueling match-ups against No. 68 DePaul and Northwestern, where the Flames fell 7-0 in both match-ups, the team looks to bounce back as they get ready to face a familiar opponent in Chicago.

Over the past two seasons, the Flames have met the Maroons to go 2-0, including last year's defeat of 5-2 at the Hinsdale Racquet Club. The two teams previously met up in the fall at the River Forest Invitational, Sept. 16-17, where UIC went 4-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles against Chicago.

Rahul Kamath, James Li, Gautham Oroskar and Alexander Raa topped their opponents in singles matches, while Chicago's Ankur Bhargava and Krishna Ravella outlasted UIC in their respective duals with Nate Kirk and Alan Reifer. The doubles win came from the tandem of Mauricio Feoli and Kamath against Deepak Sabada and Ryan Ho in an 8-3 decision.

Chicago faces UIC in its first dual meet of the season, after being ranked in the Division III preseason national rankings at No. 11 and in the central at No. 3.
