MILWAUKEE - The UIC men's and women's Indoor Track & Field teams competed at the Panther Tune-Up in Milwaukee Friday night, coming away with four individual titles. It was the last event for UIC in preparation for next weekend's Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships in Youngstown, Ohio.
Freshman Ariel Kirby took home first-place honors in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finishing line in 56.94 seconds, nearly seven seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Tess Ehrhardt finished the 3,000 meter in a meet-best 10:33.83.
On the men's side, UIC's 4x400 relay, comprised of Ryan Blackmon, Josh Stanner, Michael Stupka and Angelos Karkalis captured medalist honors, finishing nearly 10 seconds ahead of Bradley's combination.
"I was very pleased with Ariel Kirby's performance in the 400-meter," said head coach Jim Knoedel. "She posted her best time of the season, and is No. 2 on the Horizon League list.
"For the second week in a row, Justen Garth came up with a personal record in the 60-meter - his continued improvement makes him a threat for the Horizon League title in the dash. Jaime Johnson continues to cut time off her mark in the 1-Mile; her performance will be an important part of our success next weekend."
Additionally, Alexandria tallied a second-place finish in the women's weight throw (16.55 meters), while Mariya Denisenko took second in the long jump (5.44 meters). In the 1-Mile Run, Jaime Johnson finished in 5:13.92, good for seventh in the field.
Second-place finishes on the men's side included Justin Higginbotham in the triple jump (14.46 meters), Justen Garth in the 60-meter dash (6.95 seconds), Stanner in the 400-meter dash (51.13 seconds) and Karkalis in the 800-meter run (1:56.48).
Both teams will compete in a split-squad schedule next weekend (Feb. 10-11), at the respective Chicagoland Championships and Iowa State Classic.
