Track and Field Heads to Meyo Invitational

Feb. 3, 2012

Chicago - The UIC men's and women's track and field teams will be competing in the Meyo Invitational Friday and Saturday at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., with competition set to begin at 3:00 p.m. CT inside the Loftus Center.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Meyo Invitational and the event has grown to be perhaps the most important meet each season.

Along with the host school, Notre Dame, the list of the Flames opponents includes Chicago State, Eastern Michigan, Western Ontario and Butler.

The Flames will be competing in a number of different events throughout the two day invitational. Senior Josh Stanner will be running the men's 60 meter dash along with fellow teammate Justin Garth, a junior at UIC. Sophomore Nick Torres will be the lone Flame competing in the men's long jump event.

For the Flames' women's track team, junior Jaime Johnson will be competing in the important Meyo Mile along with fellow Freshman Tess Ehrdhart. Both women will be looking to outshine their opponents in a competitive field of athletes representing many teams from the Horizon League as well as other elite schools from across the country.

The Flames will look to continue the success from its last meet at the "Tadd Metzger Invitational" on January 27 at Carthage College. The men's and women's track & field teams recorded a combined 11 first-place finishes, including a pair of school records.

The Meyo Invitational is the fourth invitational of the six-week season, which culminates with the beginning of the Horizon League Championship on February 25 in Youngstown, Ohio.
