MILWAUKEE - The UIC men's tennis team could not overcome Marquette on Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium, as they dropped a 7-0 decision. The Flames fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Golden Eagles go to 2-1.
In doubles action, Marquette topped UIC in the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions. Alexander Raa and Rahul Kamath rotated into the No. 1 spot and went up against Jose Crowley and Dan Mamalt, before falling 8-2. The tandem of Alan Reifer and Maurizio Feoli were defeated by Jonathan Schwerin and Vukasin Teofanovic in the No. 2 slot, 8-3. In the No. 3 position, Gautham Oroskar and Scott Shepardson paired for the first time this season, but came up short to James Stark and Cameron Tehrani, 8-5.
The Flames fell to the Golden Eagles in all six, two-set matches. Mamalat took the first win by topping Raa at No. 1, 6-0, 6-3. James Li moved into the singles rotation for the first time this season. In the No. 2 position, he battled with Jose Crowley before dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision. In their first set at the No. 3 spot, Reifer went to 7-5 with Teofanovic, but could not keep up in the second, falling 6-1.
Feoli was tested in the No. 4 spot, but fell short to Logon Collins, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 5 singles, Kamath went down 6-2, 6-2 to Drake Kakar. Tehrani rounded out the No. 6 position by coming out on top 6-2, 6-0 of Oroskar.
The Flames will not compete until Friday, Feb. 24, when they head to face Western Michigan at 6 p.m. (CT) at West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Mich.
