BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Jenna Marsalli (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) hit a homerun in the top of the fifth inning against Indiana Sunday at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind., as UIC fell in a 9-1 outcome.
The Hoosiers earned five runs during the second inning of play to gain a hefty lead over the Flames, before adding four additional runs in the bottom of the third inning. With the 9-0 lead, Indiana was able to hold off UIC through four innings of play.
In the top of the fifth inning, Marsalli led off the inning with a home run. Despite the effort, Indiana run-ruled the Flames and won the game in a 9-1 decision.
UIC posted five hits to Indiana's 11. In addition to Marsalli's hit, junior Melissa Preish (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) and junior Courtney Heeley (Glendale, Ariz./Greenway) had a hit a piece, while freshman Erica Hampton (Wichita, Kan./Bishop Carroll) had two hits during her two at-bats.
The Flames return to action Wednesday against Western Illinois at 3:00 p.m. (CT).
