CHICAGO - The UIC men's tennis team (1-8) gets set to take on Prairie View A&M and Southern Methodist University on Monday in a pair of dual matches in Dallas, Texas. The Flames meet with the Panthers at 10 a.m. (CT) before taking on the Mustangs at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Jewish Community Center.
Monday marks the second day of competition in three days for UIC. While the team postponed its match with Olivet Nazarene, they are coming off of a tough loss against Wisconsin on Saturday, March 17, in Madison, Wisc. The Flames dropped a 7-0 decision to the Badgers.
Wisconsin came away with the doubles point after topping UIC at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions. Rahul Kamath and Alexander Raa (No. 1) went down 8-3, as Scott Shepardson and Nate Kirk (No. 2) and Maurizio Feoli and Alan Reifer (No. 3) each fell 8-4 to their respective opponents.
Through singles play, the Flames went down in straight set matches to the Badgers, with James Li taking his first set to a tiebreaker, but ultimately falling 7-6 (5), 6-3.
Prairie View A&M currently holds a 4-9 overall record after dropping its last two matches in 7-0 decisions against Marist and Texas-Pan American on March 12 and 14, respectively.
SMU (5-6) is in the midst of a five-game home stand. They have gone 2-1 in their past three matches at the Jewish Community Center, including their 5-2 win over Southern Miss on March 15. Over the past two seasons, the Mustangs have come out on top of the Flames in a pair of 6-1 decisions.
Following UIC's matchup with Prairie View A&M, the Panthers take on the Mustangs before SMU returns to take on the Flames.
