CHICAGO - Ashley Hewett had a two-run homerun in the first game of a doubleheader against IUPUI to lead the Flames to a 2-0 victory Saturday inside Flames Field in Chicago, Ill. IUPUI then defeated UIC in a 1-0 decision during the second contest.

With the split decisions, the UIC softball team now carries a 15-16 overall record.

Devin Miller started in the circle for UIC in the first game, where the junior improved her record to 9-10, with her final strikeout of the game being her 100th of the season. Miller blanked nine batters in the contest versus the Jaguars.

On the chilly day, neither team produced a high number of hits in the game, with IUPUI earning three, and UIC with only one. One hit was all the Flames needed as in the bottom of the fourth inning, Coryn Schmit walked to, before Jacki Fletcher moved Schmit to second on a fielder's choice play. Then, with Schmit on second, Hewett hit a homerun to left field to produce the sole hit to pace the Flames to a 2-0 victory.

Hewett pitched for UIC during the second game, where she recorded a season-high nine strikeouts in seven innings of play, falling short of her career-high, 12, by only three strikeouts.

The second game was reminiscent of the first contest with few hits; UIC had six to IUPUI's three. Six different Flames players recorded a hit in the second game, but despite the opportunities, UIC stranded 10 runners on base.

In the top of the seventh inning, IUPUI's lead-off batter and catcher, Nicole Checkie hit a solo homerun to lead the Jaguars to a 1-0 outcome.

The Flames return to action Tuesday against Wisconsin at 4:30 p.m. (CT) inside Flames Field in Chicago, Ill.
