CHICAGO - Lead-off batter,
Melinda Macias, reached base twice in the contest against Wisconsin Tuesday inside Flames Field in Chicago, Ill., where the Flames were defeated in a 5-0 decision.
Macias drew a walk, while also collecting one of the Flames' four hits of the game. Other UIC members who collected a hit in the Badger contest include, Melissa Preish, Jacki Fletcher and Kara Komp.
Komp, who pinch hit for catcher, Teresa Aguiliar, reached base with a well-placed slap bunt, before stealing second base. Despite placing seven runners in scoring position, the Flames were unable to score during the game.
Wisconsin out-hit UIC 10-4, including a hard-hit homerun over the centerfield wall, which sent two base runners across the plate for the Badgers to collect their first runs of the game.
Devin Miller began the game in the circle for UIC, where she pitched through four complete innings, before Ashley Hewett entered to conclude the fifth inning and close out the game. In a little more than four innings of work, Miller blanked five batters to improve her season total to 105 strikeouts.
The Flames return to action Friday for their second conference series of the season. UIC will face Butler in a single game Friday, which begins at 3:00 p.m. (CT), followed by a double header Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind.
