YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The UIC volleyball team (8-9/2-1 Horizon League) was outlasted, 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12) by Youngstown State (11-6/1-2 Horizon League) Friday inside the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Four members of the UIC team logged double-digit kills in the contest.
Senior Aubrey Sniegowski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) piloted the Flames with 18 kills to tie her career-high set on Oct. 16, 2010, also against the Penguins. Seniors Kelsey Safranek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Janise Dismuke (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) earned 14 kills apiece, while sophomore Sara Sternard(Clarendon Hills, Ill./Westmont) chipped in an addition 15 kills on the night.
After dropping the first set in a 25-23 decision, UIC battled back in the second and third sets to consecutive 25-23 victories.
Despite leading the match 2-1, UIC was unable to hold on to its lead as the Penguins won the fourth set 25-21, followed by a 15-12 victory to secure the match, 3-2.
The Flames return to action Saturday against Cleveland State at 3:00 p.m. (CT).
