CHICAGO - The UIC men's tennis team (1-2) heads to Milwaukee, Wis., to face Marquette on Saturday at 3 p.m. (CT) at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium in a non-conference dual match.
"Big East opponent Marquette will be another tough test for our team," head coach Hans Neufeld said. "We have to get off to a strong start in doubles to compete well."
Coming off of a weekend where they went 1-1, the Flames look to carry over momentum from their most recent 7-0 win over Chicago State. Despite a 5-2 loss against Western Michigan, UIC went 8-4 in singles and 3-3 in doubles between its two matches.
The most recent Horizon League Tennis Athlete of the Week, Maurizio Feoli went 2-0 in singles, extending his season singles record to 3-0, and 1-1 in doubles. Alexander Raa also went 2-0 in singles after fending off Western Michigan at the No. 3 position and then moving to No. 2 versus Chicago State.
Heading into Saturday's competition, Marquette has been able to fend off the Flames in the six previous contests, with UIC's last win coming during the 2005-06 season. So far this season, the Golden Eagles are 1-0, with a 7-0 loss against No. 30 Notre Dame. They are scheduled to host IUPUI Friday afternoon at home.
The Flames look to take a win over the Broncos on Friday, after WMU has won the previous three matches. Western Michigan is 1-1 this season, with a 6-1 win over Detroit and a 5-2 loss against No. 41 Northwestern.
