Aleksov Named HL Offensive Player Of The Week

Oct. 14, 2013

CHICAGO - UIC senior Slobodan Aleksov has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 7-13, it was announced by the League office Monday. The accolade comes after Aleksov scored three goals in two games, including a pair of game-winners, to improve the Flames record to 9-3-0, 2-0-0 HL, this season.

Aleksov was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week following his three-goal performance for the week ending Oct. 13.

UIC first collected a 2-1 double-overtime win against Eastern Illinois on Oct. 8, when Aleksov scored both goals of the game to garner the win. Aleksov scored in the 87th minute to tie the match against the Panthers, before coming back in the 104th to score the game-winning goal.

The Flames returned against Detroit on Oct. 12 to mark its seventh shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory after Aleksov scored off a penalty kick in the 28th minute, followed by a goal by senior Bob Novak at the 77:19 mark.

Over the course of the two games, the Belgrade, Serbia, native made 18 shot attempts, with eight reaching on goal, for three goals and six total points. Through the Flames 12 matches this season, Aleksov leads in goals (5), shots (36) and SOG (18), while junior Jesus Torres, who recorded three helpers off the four goals scored against EIU and Detroit, leads the team with seven assists.

Aleksov and the Flames return to Horizon League play Wednesday at Flames Field when they host conference-foe, and No. 24 ranked, Milwaukee at 7 p.m. CT.
