CHICAGO—UIC soccer player Slobodan Aleksov has been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athlete of the Week for the period Oct. 7-13. The senior scored three goals in the team's last two games, including a pair of game winners against Eastern Illinois and Horizon League-foe Detroit. He has also been named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week and was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after his performance.
In the double-overtime win against Eastern Illinois, Aleksov scored both of the goals for his team. He scored in the 87th minute to tie the match against the Panthers, before coming back in the 104th to score the game-winning goal.
In the game against Detroit, Aleksov scored off a penalty kick to contribute to the team's seventh shutout on the season with a 2-0 victory. With both games combined, the senior has made 18 shot attempts, with eight reaching on goal, for three goals and six total points.
Aleksov currently leads his 9-3-0, 2-0-0 team in goals (5), shots (36) and SOG (18). He is the third soccer player thus far to be selected as the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Flames' will next host Milwaukee at Flames Field on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with a scheduled start a 7 p.m. CT.
