CHICAGO - UIC junior Jesus Torres has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 14-20, it was announced by the League office Monday. Torres collects his first career honor after scoring the game-winner against Milwaukee on Oct. 16 and assisting on the game-winning goal versus Wright State on Oct. 19 to lift the Flames to an unbeaten 4-0-0 record in the Horizon League.

UIC (11-3-0) was able to come away with its eighth shutout of the season after defeating the Panthers, 1-0, at Flames Field. Torres scored the lone goal of the game in the 66th minute off a pass from senior Slobodan Aleksov for his fourth goal and second game-winner this season.

The Flames were back in action against the Raiders three days later and captured a 3-2 double-overtime victory for their fifth-straight win. Following goals by redshirt-senior Josh Beard and Aleksov, the Raiders came back to score two in regulation, before Torres set up Aleksov in the 105th minute of the second overtime to move the Flames to first place in the Horizon League.

Through the two games against Milwaukee and Wright State, the Chicago, Ill., native registered two shots on goal off three attempts while collecting a goal and an assist for three points. After playing in all 14 games this season, Torres leads UIC and the League with eight assists, and is also tied for third in the nation in the category.

Torres is back on the field with the Flames on Friday as they head to Valparaiso, Ind., to take on the Crusaders at 7 p.m. CT at Brown Field.
