CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving program returned home after almost a month to face Horizon League foe Milwaukee. The men's team triumphed by a final of 157-141, while the women were nipped by the Panthers, 200-98.

"The men's meet came down to the last relay. Very exciting! We were able to get our hand on the wall first. It was a nice way to finish out the week against a tough Horizon League opponent," head coach Paul Moniak expressed.

The men's squad (2-3, 1-2 HL) took first in nine out of 16 events, proving to be an unstoppable force. Kei Ishimaru was overpowering in all his individual events, as well as his relay. Ishimaru recorded a time of 1:52.31 in the 200 butterfly, 50.58 in the 100 fly, and 1:54.24 in the 200 IM. Ishimaru, joined by Peter Errichiello, Conor Ozog, and Mike Reed also proved to be the best in their 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.70.

Sebastian Ostrowski (51.56) and P. Errichiello (52.23) took first and second, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Christian Grobe was unstoppable in the 100 breaststroke recording a final time of 58.30, as well as the 200 breast with a time of 2:04.99. Reed breezed through the 50 freestyle (20.99) as he touched for first place.

In a nail biting, down to the wire final race, the Flames quartet of Vincent Errichiello, Nick Kowaleski, Ostrowski, and P. Errichiello touched first with a time of 1:25.02, beating Milwaukee by just .11 of a second as the crowd roared and guaranteed the men's squad first-place honors in the meet.

The Flames also finished with seven second-place finishes. John Mordach took second in the 200 free (1:46.55), while Connor Howard in the 1-mtr and 3-mtr diving with scores of 278.30 and 296.00, respectively. Kowaleski just missed first in the 100 free (47.27) and Ramiro Almaraz took second in the 200 back (1:55.48). Ryota Kuwahara pushed through 1650 yards in the men's free, but ultimately came in second with a time of 16:18.56.

On the women's side (2-3, 1-2 HL), Danel Voorhees was best in the 100 fly, clocking in at 57.38. Whitney Johnson also dove best on the 1-mtr board with a final score of 307.50.

"We faced one of the top women's teams in the Horizon League today and it was a tough battle," said Moniak. "We had some solid performances, but we still have a lot of work to do."

UIC took second in eight events, starting with the quartet of Anne Jacobsen, Voorhees, Monica Pinkus, and Katherine Hare in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.71.

Pinkus also took second in the 100 breast (1:04.57) and 200 breast (2:24.92). Jacobsen tapped second in the 100 back, registering a time of 1:00.01. Veronica Gibson came up short in the 1650 free with a time of 17:44.96, as well as the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.70.

The foursome of Pinkus, Hare, Melanie Waszak, and Kelsey Millin pushed through the 200 free relay, but ultimately came in second with a time of 1:37.48. Waszak also placed second in the 200 fly (2:08.69).

Both squads continue action next weekend with back-to-back meets beginning Friday, November 8 taking on Wyoming at 5 p.m. (CT) and rounding out the weekend facing Northwestern and Wyoming again on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m.
