Putna Garners College Soccer News Accolade

Dec. 26, 2013

CHICAGO - After being named the Horizon League Freshman and Goalkeeper of the Year and earning a spot on the All-League First Team and All-Freshman Team, UIC men's soccer freshman goalkeeper Andrew Putna has collected yet another honor as he was recently named to the 2013 College Soccer News All-Freshman third team.

The Lemont, Ill., native started and played in all 20 matches for the Flames and registered every minute in goal, as his 16-4-0 record marked the most wins since 1999 when Chris Jamal collected 16, tying for the most in a single season in program history.

Putna made 52 saves for a .765 save percentage and allowed just 16 goals for a 0.79 goals against average, while posting 10 shutouts, including five consecutive, for the most in a season since 2008.

Putna was additionally named to the Belmont Invitational and UIC Soccer Classic All-Tournament teams during the regular season and received the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week accolade on Sept. 16.
