CHICAGO - The UIC men's soccer team will wrap up exhibition play on Saturday night against Northern Illinois with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT at Flames Field. The Flames look to stay undefeated during preseason action as they claimed a 2-1 victory versus Big Ten-foe Wisconsin this past Monday.
The Huskies enter Friday's matchup after posting a 0-0 tie against IUPUI last Saturday at home. The two squads did not participate in overtime, but NIU finished the contest strong, outshooting the Jaguars, 8-3, in the final period.
Against the Badgers, UIC faced an early 1-0 deficit as UW converted a header off a throw-in less than one minute before the first period ended. Sophomore Jorge Alvarez netted the Flames' first goal at the 67:14 mark to knot the tally at 1-1. Alvarez was assisted by senior Slobodan Aleksov and was able to score between two Badger defenders. Redshirt freshman Evan Trychta booted the game-winner at the 77:50 mark, which he corralled off a Wisconsin save five yards in front of the net.
UIC will make its regular season debut on Friday, Aug. 30 against Eastern Illinois at Flames Field with start time scheduled for 7 p.m. The squad will then host UC-Santa Barbara on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. in part of a four-game homestand to commence the 2013 campaign.
