Final Results 
DAYTON, Ohio - In the first meet of the 2014-15 regular season, the UIC swimming & diving program traveled to take on Wright State. The women extended their winning streak against the Raiders to four (173-126) while the men were defeated by a score of 165-135. The meet was highlighted by dominant performances from juniors Veronica Gibson and Kei Ishimaru, wins from a pair of freshman, close finishes and a sweep in diving.
Gibson led the women's team (1-0, 1-0 HL) with wins in the 1000 yard free (10:54.79), 200 yard fly (2:13.40) and 500 yard free (5:16.29). Sophomore Claire Haggerty, in her first meet with UIC, captured two first place finishes. In the 200 yard free, Haggerty defeated teammate Kelsey Millin by .86 seconds to earn her first win with a time of 1:58.04. She followed up that with a victory in the 200 yard IM (2:12.52).
In another debut performance, sophomore Erika Martinez beat out Wright State's Ashlyn Roberts by .03 seconds to earn her first win in the 50 yard free (25.11). Martinez was also a member of the victorious 400-yard free relay team that finished with a time of 3:38.92. The squad was led off by Martinez followed by Katherine Hare, Hannah Zimmer and Millin.
Another close finish came in the 100 yard fly. Freshman Marisa Savegnago edged out teammate junior Danel Voorhees by .37 seconds to finish at 59.18. It marked Savegnago's first collegiate victory.
Junior Jocelyn Langballe was also able to capture her first collegiate victory in the 200 yard back (2:08.72). Senior diver Whitney Johnson, who is looking to become the first UIC diver to qualify for four straight NCAA Championships, won the 1-meter (236.55) and 3-meter (278.25) events.
The men's team (0-1, 0-1 HL) collected six wins, including junior Mark Ciesielski sweeping the 1-meter (274.35) and 3-meter (278.70) diving events. Freshman Tanner Alms captured his first collegiate win in the 1000 yard free (9:54.63) and senior Mike Reed earned a victory in the 50 yard free (21.31).
Junior Kei Ishimaru, who is the reigning Horizon League champion in 200 yard fly, took home a victory in the event with a time of 1:53.82. Ishimaru also defeated Wright State's Mitchell Stover by .2 seconds to take home first place in the 100 yard fly.
The Flames are back in the pool on Oct. 25 when they travel up to Evanston to take on Northwestern and fellow Horizon League member Oakland.
